Choosing a Mount
Why would I choose a rib mount over a receiver mount?
Moving the optic farther away from your face provides a more natural feel and a better field of view around the optic. Most reflex optics were originally designed for pistol use, where they are held at arm’s length. Everything we sell has also been tested and used successfully on shotguns.
Being able to see around the optic helps prevent you from having to move your head to see the target. It also makes shooting with both eyes open easier, improves your overall field of view, and helps you acquire the target quickly.
A rib-mounted optic is positioned near the hand holding the shotgun’s forend. If you need to adjust the brightness or press a button, you can do so with very little movement. Because the optic is farther from your face, you are also less likely to breathe on it and fog the lens during an early-morning hunt.
We released our rib mounts in 2020 after personally testing them through two spring turkey seasons. Once properly installed, they are rock solid and will not move.
We also offer receiver mounts for customers who prefer that mounting location. For a more detailed comparison, visit our Mount Comparison Breakdown .
You can also read verified customer reviews directly on our product pages.
How do the rib mounts work?
Our installation video provides a complete visual walkthrough.
The Universal Rib Mount includes six rib adapters. Select the adapter that best matches the width of your shotgun’s rib. If the largest adapter does not fit, the mount can be used without an adapter on a 3/8-inch-wide rib.
- Place the selected rib adapter into the bottom of the mount’s top plate.
- Position the top plate and adapter over the shotgun rib.
- Place the appropriate bottom plate underneath the rib.
- Align the threaded holes in the bottom plate with the holes in the top plate.
- Install the included screws using the supplied wrench.
- Attach the optic using the appropriate screws supplied with the optic.
Two bottom plates are included: a thicker plate made from 7075 aluminum and a thinner heat-treated steel plate for shotguns with very little clearance beneath the rib.
We recommend tightening the mount screws to 12 in-lbs, although installation is still simple without a torque wrench. Low-strength Vibra-Tite is included and may be applied if desired. After installation, the final step is to sight in your optic.
Will the Low Profile Direct Rib Mount fit my gun?
If your shotgun has a ventilated rib, we likely have a mount option for it.
On the Low Profile Direct Rib Mount product page , select your shotgun brand and model using the configurator. If your shotgun is not listed, you can choose the Universal option or select the appropriate gun-specific size by measuring the rib.
For help deciding between a gun-specific and Universal Rib Mount, review the comparison section on the rib-mount product page.
The space under my rib looks very small. Will the bottom plate fit?
Yes. Our rib mounts include two different bottom-plate options:
- A thicker 7075 aluminum plate, most commonly used with pump and semi-automatic shotguns.
- A thinner heat-treated steel plate, most commonly used with over/under and single-shot shotguns or ribs with very little clearance underneath.
Will the receiver mount fit my gun?
If your shotgun came drilled and tapped from the factory, we likely make a receiver mount for it. On the Receiver Mount product page , select your shotgun brand and model. We will provide the correct mount radius, hole spacing, and receiver screws for the selected firearm.
If your shotgun is not listed, email help@meadowcreekmounts.com so we can determine whether an existing mount fits or whether a new model is in development.
If the receiver was not drilled and tapped at the factory, you may select the desired mount radius, hole spacing, screw size, and thread pitch when having the receiver professionally drilled and tapped.
The product page also includes a detailed comparison between our 2-hole and 6-hole receiver-mount options.
Where are Meadow Creek Mounts made?
Our mounts are proudly made in the USA, with most manufacturing processes completed in-house at our facility in South Carolina.
Keeping the majority of the work under our own roof gives us direct control over fit, consistency, and quality. It also allows us to continually improve our mounts based on customer feedback and real-world use in the field.
Optics and Footprints
What optic footprint do I need?
We manufacture mounts for multiple footprints to fit a wide selection of optics. When ordering from a product page, select your actual optic brand and model. We will send the mount with the correct footprint for the optic you select.
We also offer mount-and-optic package deals that include a compatible mount and optic. This removes any uncertainty about compatibility, and most packages save approximately $30 compared with ordering the items separately.
If your optic is not listed, that does not necessarily mean we cannot mount it. Searching online for the optic’s complete model name followed by the word “footprint” will often identify the footprint.
If we do not manufacture a direct mount for the footprint and the optic has a Picatinny clamp, our Picatinny Rib Mount may be another option.
My optic isn’t listed in the dropdown menu. What should I choose?
If your optic is not listed, that does not necessarily mean we cannot mount it. Search online using the optic’s complete model name followed by the word “footprint.” Once you determine the footprint, select that footprint from the dropdown menu on the product page.
If we do not manufacture a direct mount for that footprint and the optic has a Picatinny clamp, our Picatinny Rib Mount may be another option.
If you are still unsure, email help@meadowcreekmounts.com before placing your order.
I received my mount, but my optic doesn’t fit. What should I do?
Some optics arrive attached to a Picatinny clamp. To use one of our direct mounts, remove the screws fastening the optic to its Picatinny clamp and attach the optic directly to the Meadow Creek Mounts base.
If the optic does not match the footprint of the mount you received, email exchange@meadowcreekmounts.com .
Please include:

The screws included with my optic don’t fit the mount. What should I do?
Many optics include several screw sizes. These screws may be in small plastic bags or pressed deeply into the black packaging foam, so check the entire box carefully.
If you are certain the optic did not include the correct screws, email help@meadowcreekmounts.com .

Sighting and Use
How do I sight in a red dot?
Sighting in a red dot is straightforward. Watch our red-dot sight-in video for a visual demonstration.
- Begin by bore-sighting. With a rib mount, you can look through the shotgun’s barrel. You may also use a laser bore sight.
- Begin shooting with inexpensive target loads at approximately 15–20 yards.
- Once you are close, install the choke and hunting load you intend to use and complete the final sight-in at approximately 30–40 yards.
- Adjust the dot from your original point of aim toward the actual point of impact, as demonstrated in the video.
Different chokes and loads can change the point of impact. Always complete your final sight-in with the exact choke and load you intend to hunt with.
Red-dot adjustments work like scope adjustments. If your pattern is hitting left, turn the adjustment in the direction marked right to move the point of impact right. This physically moves the dot left inside the optic while moving the firearm’s point of impact right.
If your pattern is hitting high, turn the adjustment in the direction marked down. This physically moves the dot upward while moving the firearm’s point of impact downward.
Do red dots work for clays or wingshooting?
Yes. Many customers have successfully used our rib mounts for sporting clays, trap, skeet, duck hunting, goose hunting, and upland bird hunting.
The field of view provided by a rib-mounted optic makes it easier to maintain awareness around the optic and acquire a moving target.

What is the warranty on third-party products?
Third-party products sold by Meadow Creek Mounts—including red- and green-dot optics—carry warranties provided by their respective manufacturers.
We only sell optic brands that we have personally tested, trust, and believe provide acceptable warranty support. Because each manufacturer has different warranty requirements, contact the manufacturer directly when a warranty issue arises.
We understand that time is important during hunting season and may assist with an optic exchange on a case-by-case basis.
